Composers
Luiz Marquez
Composer and and leader of the Mezcal movement committed to the diffusion of natural forces through the medium of Ethno-Jazz. This movement has added a new dimension to “world music”. A new sound which merges ethnic roots (Pre Hispanic, Mexican, Latin American, African and Arabian) with jazz, employing a panoply of antique instruments like the huehuetl, teponaztle, turtoise shells, sea shells, ocarinas and a variety of flutes. Luiz Márquez began his ethnic music studies under maestro Zacharias Segura which profoundly marked his musical and spritual direction. After a period of musical experimentation in Europe he returned to his Mexican origins, its traditions, its landsapes and its music. Here the Mezcal sound was born combining urban sophistication with indigenous roots. A genuine meeting between North and South, tradition and jazz, the force of nature and the human spirit.
